Nohkalikai is the tallest plunge waterfall in India, dropping nearly 1,115 feet into a turquoise blue pool. Its name, "Fall of Ka Likai," is tied to a tragic Khasi legend about a mother whose grief led her to jump from the cliff. Regardless of the sad story, the visual impact of the falls is breathtaking. You can view it from a well-maintained plateau, and on clear days, you can see all the way into the plains of Bangladesh across the border.

Safety should be your top priority. Never attempt to swim at the base of a large waterfall unless it is a designated safe zone; undercurrents and slippery rocks are deceptive and dangerous. Always wear sturdy, non-slip footwear as the paths are often wet and muddy. Respect all warning signs and barricades, and never venture off the marked trails. If you are visiting with children, keep them within arm’s reach at all times, especially near the edge of viewing platforms.

Meghalaya, particularly the plateau of Cherrapunji (Sohra) and Mawsynram, receives some of the highest rainfall in the world.
