Pro Tips

Try the "Chilika Crab" or "Jumbo Prawns" at the local OTDC (Odisha Tourism) restaurants; they are sourced fresh from the lagoon daily and are significantly cheaper than in the cities.

Note that the ferry ride to "Kalijai Temple" island takes about 45-60 minutes one way; factor in at least 3 hours for the total trip including the temple visit.

Head to the "Satapada" side of Chilika Lake early in the morning (before 8 AM) for the highest probability of spotting the rare, shy Irrawaddy Dolphins.

Avoid using plastic bags or throwing food scraps into the water; Chilika is an ecologically sensitive Ramsar site with strict fines for littering.

Apply insect repellent due to high humidity.

Never swim immediately after eating heavy meals.
