Historical Significance

The Thanjavur Maratha Palace Complex, officially the Aranmanai, was the official residence of the Bhonsle family who ruled the Thanjavur region. Built mostly by the Nayaks and later enhanced by the Marathas, the palace features wide corridors, spacious halls, and observation towers. It houses an exceptional art gallery featuring bronze idols spanning from the 9th to 19th centuries, alongside the renowned Saraswathi Mahal Library.
