The most rewarding time for river tourism is generally from August to January, immediately following the monsoon season. During this period, rivers are full and majestic, and the surrounding landscapes are at their lushest. If you are interested in white-water rafting, the window from March to May and September to November is ideal, as the water levels are manageable and the weather is predictable. Peak monsoon (July-August) should be avoided for water activities due to high flow rates and flooding risks.

The peak season for rafting in Rishikesh is from late September to mid-November and then from March to early May. During these windows, the Ganges offers a range of rapids from Grade I to IV, suitable for both novices and adrenaline junkies. The water is clear and the weather is pleasant for outdoor activities. Rafting is strictly closed during the monsoon (July to September) as the river becomes extremely turbulent and dangerous. In the deep winter (December-January), the water can be bone-chillingly cold, making it less comfortable for many.
