About the Reserve

Eravikulam National Park, majestically spanning 97 square kilometers in the high ranges of the Idukki district, is renowned globally as Kerala’s first recognized national park. This incredibly rich ecological sanctuary is most famous for hosting the largest surviving population of the deeply endangered Nilgiri Tahr, an endemic mountain goat species heavily protected here. The rolling grasslands and high-altitude shola forests uniquely create a spectacular green canvas that transforms dramatically every twelve years when the rare Neelakurinji flowers spectacularly bloom, completely covering the high hills in a stunning vibrant purplish-blue hue. Adventure seekers absolutely love trekking to Anamudi Peak, officially the highest peak in South India standing proudly at 2,695 meters, located centrally within this park. Eravikulam perfectly offers tourists a pristine, strictly protected mountain paradise strongly focused on preserving highly delicate tropical mountain ecosystems and extremely rare exotic wilderness.
