Perched dramatically on the rugged edge of the Aravalli Hills overlooking the vibrant Pink City of Jaipur, Nahargarh Fort offers some of the most spectacular, sweeping panoramic views in Rajasthan. Originally built in 1734 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II simply as a heavily fortified summer retreat, the fort famously formed a strong medieval defensive ring alongside Amber Fort and Jaigarh Fort. According to charming local folklore, the fort was named after Nahar Singh Bhomia, a restless spirit whose fierce ghost allegedly disrupted ongoing construction until a quiet temple was specifically built to appease him. The incredibly beautifully painted Madhavendra Bhawan, featuring a perfectly identical suite for each of the king’s twelve queens, is a stunning architectural highlight.
